1/30 of a second - f/3.3 - ISO 100

This is an “off camera” flash picture using the TZ3’s on-board flash. How? White business card reflecting the flash’s output to the left, and my wife holding up a white napkin. I’ve done this in the past, but I was recently reminded of this technique on an article I read on Strobist.

Another “off camera” flash photo with the flash mounted on the camera. Using the 550EX tilt/swivel head, I bounced the light of to the wall/ceiling on the right, creating this very soft but directional light.

Balancing a little bit of natural light with both flashes off camera, trying as much as possible to emulate a setup based entirely on natural light. Subtlety sometimes is more important than “bling” :-)

Matsu is japanese for pine (tree), which is my last name in Portuguese (pinheiro). This was taken when it was almost night, that’s why I had to go to such extremes (1/20, f/1.4, ISO 3200) to capture the sky, letting the 550EX lighten the tree.

One Response to “Strobist - Pedro Moura Pinheiro”

  1. My comments:

    1. Great shot! love it!

    2. For this kind of shots I prefer to get most of the dish in focus…. smaller apperture with higher iso and stronger flash.

    3. Nice shot, could have composed the set a little with some food around the bottle to add to the old table typical barn mood :-)

    4. Great shot!

    nice work Pedro!
