Shadow - Pedro Moura Pinheiro
woman in the sun
My wife’s shadow, with her standing between the windows and the hospital room’s curtains. Heavy Photoshop dynamic range compression, plus some sharpening, and B&Wed. Taken with the Panasonic Lumix TZ3.

another kind of prison
Although I’m not in jail, today is the 39th day since the accident, and I’m still in the hospital. My current room has a balcony, this is the shadow of the guard rail projected into the room. Shot with the TZ3, and slightly overexposed, B&Wed, and sharpened on Photoshop.

into the distance
Before this week’s operation I was more mobile, and was able to to the balcony and capture this low angle view of guard rail’s shadow. B&W and some levels and sharpening on Photoshop. Taken with the TZ3.

ice
The remainder of an ice cube inside my “sippy cup”, shot against the light behind me. I think the interplay between the light, shadow, and details created an interesting composition. Just some slight sharpening on Photoshop, also taken with the TZ3.

This was a mixed week for me. I managed to do one of the assignments I had missed, but after the operation on Thursday, with my mobility reduced, and without my SLR and flash equipment, I got a bit frustrated between the the ideas I had and what I could do with conditions at hand. But I had to think a little bit harder, improvise, and in the end, this is what this site is all about!!
I hope you nevertheless enjoy my efforts.

Congrats on another mission accomplished! My comments follow:
1. It is well thought out but something is not right. I think the fact that the shadow is somehow distorted from the real thing might give us that feeling. I like the contrast and the sharp and focused shadow though.
2. Very creative and well executed. I like it! Even though it reminds us of some kind of prison…..
3. An inverted shadow! Cool! I think there is too much shadow on the base of the picture, maybe a little zoom and concentrating on less white squares…. great idea though, clever and interesting.
4. It seemed like a good idea but I don’t like the end result. It feels like the abstract insides of some kind of live being…. too abstract for my taste.
Good work! Keep it up!
