Shadow - Nuno Correia
Green
I’ve found a bag full of glass marbles in a drawer and it made a click in my head. After some test runs with various marbles, when I found the yellow one, I thought in primary and secondary colors, and there it is, if you mix blue and yellow you get… green!

Size matters!
This pun was intended!
When we’re talking about screws (like the ones in the photo) size and shape matters. I tried some shots with the big one, but it made all the sense in the world when I placed the small one.

Syringe
My wife’s aunt was a nurse, well, my wife is also a nurse, and some years ago, she gave to her some old hospital equipment. Some metal boxes, glass boxes, needles, weird kinds of scissors, a speculum and some glass syringes. When I saw the syringe, I thought that it would be a great effect to show only the shadow of the scale printed in the syringe. I think that I’ve accomplished that

Needles
The old syringe needles that I told you about in the previous photo.

Innuendo
How did I manage to take this photo? Well, first of all, I convinced my wife to pose as a model (and that was the difficult part :p ), at my house the entrance hall separates my living room from the kitchen, and on both rooms we’ve sliding doors with big translucent windows, so I placed a 500W projector in the kitchen, then asked my wife to pose in the hall, near the closed living room door, me with the camera on the other side of the closed door :p. The result it’s a silhouette, with some fuzzy detail. Thank you, my love.

As usual, I tried a less common approach to the theme. On this assignment I got the help from my lovely wife. A shadow theme begs for high contrast and sharpness, if you want a well defined shadow with well defined boundaries. So, since I have no external flashes, I had to improvise in the form of a 500W projector. I liked the results, I’ll use it again for sure! The projector light saturated the picture with an orange look, so I used the custom white balance in my 400D, so my camera can understand what’s white, even with that light. I tried to find a different kind of shadow, not just a black blob, therefore I used the glass marbles and the syringe. I hope you like it ![]()

Congrats on another mission accomplished! My comments follow:
1. Very creative work. I would have never thought about trying colored shadows! Well thought out and well executed.
2. A simple but effective shot. Very good detail and good lighting. Even though the shadow is not the main focus the shot looks very good.
3. I love this one. Again very creative and very good detail. Excellent!
4. Too much emphasis on the objects rather than the shadows. Even so, it looks very good and the fact that we can now see the entire object shadowed make it a cool shot.
5. A mixture of a silluete, a shadow and reflections that make the picture look like a painting with the brownish tone…. very creative! I don’t know whether it fits well under the theme shadow, I think I would rather put it under the Human Body theme, but nonetheless the shot is very good and very creative. I love it.
Good work! Keep it up!
