Low-Key - Pedro Gaspar

test 1

Living room, the Mac’s back facing a turned off LCD monitor to reflect the Apple logo. The goal was that the Mac’s screen would provide the minimal light for the low-key concept.

Experimenting with black stock paper as a background (the first goal after these tests is to find the right backgrounds), and two speakers and a wisemonkey as inspiration.

This was the first photo shot for this assignment, and the one that led me to participate. My daughter’s hand on my wife’s with just a normal lamp providing the contrasting light.

I’m a friend of Luis Amaral, he pointed me to your website. I’m someone who likes photography and is always trying to learn something new to be able one day to introduce myself as an amateur photographer.

I should say that at the beginning I thought this assignment would be easy, and I tried to comply with its goals, a task more difficult than I could imagine - but better for it, as the challenges are what help us grow in photography.

One Response to “Low-Key - Pedro Gaspar”

  1. First of all a big thanks to Pedro Gaspar for taking the time to check out the website and to put his effort into participating in the assignment. I think you understood the goal quite well, as this is a website to practice and learn and not necessarily to shine. I have to start participating more, I know. I need the learning too….

    Anyway I usually comment all the photos so here goes:

    1. A very nice idea, but because the whole scene is stactic I think it could get much better if you used a tripod and a low ISO to reduce noise to a minimum. It would bring out the sharpness of the whole scene;

    2. Good shot and framing; I think it would gain with a bit less light though, to emphasize the low key effect;

    3. Excellent shot! Good control of light, good sharpness and very good dark and neutral background. Love it!

    Nice work Pedro! Please keep on participating as I think your contribution is more than welcome by the site’s team.
