Liquids - Joao Rechena

Strawberry Lemon

Taken with my 400D and one of my flashes, using a 20€ remote flash trigger bought on ebay. The photo is overexposed on purpose. The glass is standing on the flash and the liquid inside is RED strawberry juice. Worked on PS only to enhance the colors. It was taken inside my “home made” macro studio.

On the Edge

This one is without a doubt my favorite one. Was also taken on my “home made” macro studio with a blue background. Used one lamp on the top right pointing down to the bottle with a 100W powersave light. Used two flashes also, one parallel to the bottle pointing back which makes the white light that you see on the left. The other flash was pointing to the top of the bottle with a snoot a little tip from the strobist. Used only PS for the frame.

Curl Sweetness

This one is honey, dripping from a net that Katy brought from her flower shop. Used the same light lamp from the above picture pointing down to the net. I also have a black background on my “home made” macro studio. The only flash I’ve used is pointing to the bottom of the net. Th curly effect I got it after Katy “poked” the honey to stop dripping. Lucky shoot I guess :-) .

Explosion

This one is overexposed on purpose also. The idea was to make the flower blend with the dripping milk, in a “melting” sort of efect. Taken with the same lamp on the top right. The flash was pointing down on the top of the flower. Used a red carton as a background. Also used PS only for the frame.

All photos taken with my 400D. Only worked on Photoshop the first one. The others, were just the hard work of shooting almost 500 photos. Thanks to Katy, my lovely wife. If you want more details on the how did I took this shots, reverse engineer it. ;). Kidding, feel free to ask.

  1. My comments:

    1. I think it’s a little overexposed but still looks nice. The bright color gives it a sense of freshness… well done;

    2. This one is excellent! Very sharp and good lighting. Care to explain how it was done?

    3. I don’t understand this one…. what is it?

    4. Looks quite nice but overexposed at the top. Care to explain what it is and how it’s done?

  2. ok now I am desperate to see that homemade macro studio and the flash accessories from strobist… I am into learning that kind of thing too…. :-)

    I will try to post the “making off” on the next assignment, I’m planning to use the home made macro studio once again. ;)
