Lines - Pedro Moura Pinheiro
the great divide
Sony DSC-U40
1/100 of a second - f/4.0 - ISO 100
Cobblestones dividing the path and the grass, near my house. I liked the texture, the division between left and right, and the way the line extends until it disappears.

against gravity

One of the legs of our dinner table, the perspective creates three converging lines holding the table against gravity.

pool of sharpness

Ikea wooden window blinds in my home office. The strange angle coupled with the close distance and shallow depth of field creates a pool of sharpness across the image.

This and the next photo were shot on a joint outing with Nuno. It’s the huge suspended roof of the entrance of the Gare do Oriente train station here in Lisbon. By not showing other elements, it looks completely abstract and the scale is impossible to judge, and it reminded me and Nuno of a giant wing when we were chimping it afterwards.

The end of the suspended roof of the previous photo, shot straight up, against the night sky. Again, by not showing any other elements that might give it scale, the size becomes meaningless, and only the convergence of the lines become important.

This week’s assignment changed the way I look at the world, reducing everything to linear simplicity. It was a great exercise to improve my normal observation and to help with future compositions.

Pedro, I really liked your photos, you got the idea of this weeks assignment perfectly.
I’m specially pleased by you final comment, it is always nice when we complete an assignment with that felling, of “…changed the way I look at the world…”
Great work.

My comments this week:
1. Very creative I like it… it’s only line only but one not so evident for this assignment.
2. Good detail shot. For my personal taste I would try to get as much into focus as possible, since we’re trying to get the lines and not only the corner.
3. Simple and effective, I like it.
4. Very good and very powerful shot. Perfect!
5. Very good, very sharp and very good light. Given the assignment I give it 5 stars.
Great work Pedro!
