Fire and Smoke - Nuno Pedrosa
Borderline loneliness
Shot from above, I lit a small set of candles I prepared for Rita for our wedding night. It still lives after all these years. ISO100, 1/8sec at F4.9, using telemacro and a chair, for me to stand. The set was on the floor.

Trapped fire
Another tele-macro shot. My parents had a Sardine grill to try their new griller. To keep the flames under control, they were covered with ashes. ISO800, 1/30sec at F4.9.

Deep Space
My father has a blow-torch in its auto-shop, so I had to ask him to take some shots. I was not sure about what could be done, so we tried several shots for me to choose later. Taken at ISO800, 1/10sec, F3.3, cropped in PS.

Fireworks
Join an acetilen seering hot fire with a piece of iron and voilá Instant fireworks! And some people use this to actually do some usefull work… Taken at ISO800, 1/15, F4.8, cropped and increased contrast in PS.

Street Light
After the hot date, the wire provides a rather nice, albeit short-lived and smallish, street lamp. The wood background stands rather well against the orange light. Taken at ISO800, 1/160, F4.9, cropped in PS.

As a scout (mostly a former one) I had the good luck of enjoying some great flames whenever we joined for a “Fogo de Conselho”. The larger fires have some great floating flames, easily caught with a fast enough shutter. My faithful S45 and its manual controls is still away, loaned, so I had to explore a little more of TZ3. In the end, it proved to be quite capable.
Thank you Pedro, for letting me participate! It’s really great fun to finish an assignment with a sense of accomplishment after a week’s effort. This is indeed a great idea!

My comments (I usually comment every assignment so here it goes):
1. I like the shot but I can’t quite understand where the flame is… there seems to be something on top of it?
2. A nice idea, it is the end of the fire.
3. Although I see the creativeness on this one I can’t really say I like it. It is missing content besides the flame and the darnkess around it.
4. A very cool instant fireworks! I like it!
5. A nice ‘ambient’ photo.
Great work Nuno! I hope you appreciate my (harsh) comments and hope you participate more in the future too. I need to do that as well, although I might get harsh responses for the comments I provide every week, eheheh

Hi!
1. I shot vertically, from above, with the set (candle and roses) on the floor. The flame is the bright yellow spot and there’s nothing between it and the camera. The candle has caved in (melted/burned), so the flame is framed by the red wax reflections.
Thank you for all your comments!
