This photo blog was born out of the frustration with photo procrastination between three friends. The best way to improve at anything is to practice, a lot. So we made a pact - to complete a photographic assignment every week, no matter what, on everything and anything. This isn’t a competition - there are no judges, no scores. The goal is to become better photographers, and share ideas while we’re doing it. We hope you enjoy our work! You can find the rules here.
Week 27 - HDR
High dynamic range imaging (HDRI) is a set of techniques that allows a greater dynamic range of exposures (the range of values between light and dark areas) than normal digital imaging techniques. The intention of HDRI is to accurately represent the wide range of intensity levels found in real scenes ranging from direct sunlight to shadows. in Wikipedia
Due on Monday the 7th of July, at noon GMT+1.

Window - Pedro Moura Pinheiro
windowless windows
Canon PowerShot G9
1/1250 of a second - f/4 - ISO200
If a window doesn’t serve the purpose of being a window, is it still one? What defines something, its form or its function? This is an empty building facing the river in downtown Lisbon, windows and doors are often walled in like this to prevent squatters.
Window - Nuno Correia
Noonish
Canon 400d + Tamron XR diII AF 18-200mm
_________________________________
It was almost noon, I was looking for a window with details, just an excuse to try some HDR (High Dynamic Range) photography,, and there it was!
This is the result of 3 different exposures with a 2 stops intervals, so I could get detail on the shadows, highlights and in between. Then some Photoshop hocus pocus and this is the result. I hope you like it.
Week 26 - Window
The word “window” comes “…from Old Norse vindauga, combined from of vindr “wind” and auga “eye”. The “windows” in these times were just holes (eyes) in the wall that permitted wind to pass through.” - in wiktionary. Shoot something that illustrates the concept, literally or not.
Due on Monday the 30th of June, at noon GMT+1.

1/100 of a second - f/6.3 - ISO 1000
Between “Rossio” and the area of the “Portas de Santo Antão”, in the middle of the late evening confusion, this lady sat on a stone bench. Her blue dress was striking against the the paler colors that surrounded her, just waiting for a selective coloring on Photoshop.
Week 24 - Blue
Do you have the blues? Blue is the color of sadness, but also of harmony and coolness. Make it the center piece of your photo. Due on Monday the 16th of June, at noon GMT+1.

Brands - Pedro Moura Pinheiro
it’s WAR out there!!
Canon EOS 5D + Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 OS
1/80 of a second - f/6.3 - ISO 1000
One of the most crowded and “touristy” streets in Lisbon, “Rua das Portas de Santo Antão”. The bombardment from all kinds of brands is constant, including the two envolved in one of the biggest brand wars in Portugal, between the Sagres and Super Bock beers. Both brands can be seen in the big restaurant esplanade parasol shades.

Fairy
Canon EOS400D + Canon 18-55mm + 1 Canon 430ex
1/125 - f/13 -ISO200
Fairy, the excellent detergent that my mother uses, when I looked at the green plastic I remembered one of my first’s photo, with the strobe beneath the detergent.

The technique involved here is just placing the strobe beneath the detergent with a remote trigger, at 1/32 of power and zoom at 105mm.
Week 23 - Brands
Brands! From a very small age we start being indoctrinated by a ceaseless stream of product and service brands from packaging, outdoor ads, television, the internet, print media. You don’t need to depict a specific brand - what you need is to catch the brain washing vibe that brands can achieve.

K, was holding the remote 430ex while with the great Canon 10-22mm I caught this moment. Worked in PS to convert to B&W and selectively color the gloves.
